DIY Bitty Bath Bombs and Sugar Lip Scrub

Holiday Inspired DIY Bitty Bath Bombs and Sugar Lip Scrub

Easy DIY Bitty Bath Bombs and Sugar Lip Scrubs...just like LUSH but cheaper!

Hello Bitty Luvs! I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Holiday and hope you are getting ready for Christmas!  So.. I was working on a few DIY holiday gifts this year and I thought of making some bath bombs and lip scrubs.  I was thinking to myself, while browsing holiday gifts online..that gee..I know there's gotta be a cheaper way to get some of these things without breaking the bank.  Instead of spending tons of money ordering items online, you can make it at home.  It's quite cheap and very easy to make.  Items can be found at your local grocery store. Now, you can substitute any of the oils with ones you want. You can purchase them at Whole Foods, or other grocery stores.

Holiday Sugar Lip Scrub

The picture are some scrubs I made with my daughter.  We used bead organizers as the container, and some labels I found at Michael's.

Ingredients:
  • 1 medium bowl
  • 1 cup of sugar (white, refined) or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 tablespoon of coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • red food coloring, green food coloring
  • peppermint essential oil (optional)
  • spoon
  • small decorative jar or mason jar (any small container that you can close)
Pour sugar, honey, coconut oil, and olive oil in the bowl. Drop 1-3 drops of your peppermint essential oil, and 2-3 drops of your preferred food coloring.  Stir with spoon, squishing all ingredients together until well mixed.  Once done, you can scoop all of the material into the jar.  I personally made two bowls, one using red food coloring and the other batch I used green food coloring, to make it holiday themed.  If you are using brown sugar, you may want to skip out on the food coloring.  Sugar lip scrubs can be stored at room temperature or in the fridge.

If you use brown sugar, you can pair it with coconut oil, olive oil, honey, and add some ground cinnamon to make a coconut brown sugar lip scrub.  You can also use fruit extracts for your lip scrubs.  You can purchase the extracts at your local grocery store, and you can add a drop or two to your sugar mix.

To use your lip scrub: wet lips with warm water, gently apply the lip scrub on your lips using your index finger, rub left to right like you are brushing your lips with your finger. Gently scrub your lips, rinse with warm water and lightly dry.  Apply your preferred lip balm to finish! Enjoy! You can do this as many times a day.  The honey acts as an antibacterial, the coconut oil and olive oil adds moisture and antioxidants, and the sugar will exfoliate dead skin from your lips.

Bitty Bath Bombs:
Ingredients to make 3 bath bombs
  • 1/2 cup of baking soda
  • 1/4 cup of citric acid (you can find this at the grocery store, near the canning area, or where they sell any items for pickling, or jams)
  • 1/4 cup cream of tartar
  • 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt
  • 1 tablespoon of powdered milk (optional)
  • 10-20 drops of essential oil of your choice (I bought mine at Whole Foods)
  • 2-3 tablespoons of water or tea
  • small spray bottle
  • 2-4 drops of food coloring of your choice
  • colored sprinkles of your choice (optional)
  • mold of your choice (you can get a mold at your local craft store, or you can use cupcake molds, etc. I bought some ornament ones from Michael's for $0.99)
  • Large mixing bowl
  • disposable gloves (optional)
  • fork
  • drying plate with paper towels or tissue paper

In a large mixing bowl, combine all your dry ingredients (baking soda, citric acid, cream of tartar, salt, and powdered milk.  Stir with fork.  Then add your essential oil drops, food coloring drops, don on your disposable gloves and stir and mix with your hand.  Take the small spray bottle, and our your tea/water into it and spray the mixture with the water while you are stirring with your hand, don't over spray and wet your mixture too much because it will cause the baking soda to activate.  Basically, you are trying to mix the mixture until you are able to clump it together, where it is moldable.

Once you get the right consistency, take your mold, drop in your sprinkles at the bottom to decorate the bomb, and pack in he mixture on top.  Make sure to pack it in real good. If not, the bath bomb will crumble. Once you do that set it aside and complete the other molds.  Once you are done,  lightly tap the mold at the bottom to help release the bath bomb. Take the bath bomb and lay it on your plate on top of the tissue paper.  Let dry for 24-48 hours.

Once the bath bombs are completely dry, you are free to package them in small decorative bags or boxes..or whatever container of your choice.  They make great stocking stuffers for friends/family.  I like to put mine in some bags I purchased front he craft store. You can also purchase some at your local dollar store. I like to tie a ribbon on the bag for extra flare.  You can make as many as you want, and they last a long time.

As you can see, I made 1 ball bath bomb, similar to LUSH, and I made4 halves.  The mold I used was pretty large.  I think next time I will use smaller molds.  As far as the lip scrubs, you can experiment and try different items in your scrub.  You can use bigger sugar crystals, different types of fruit extracts, different colors, the possibilities are endless!
This was my first time so trial and error.  It was fun to do, and you can make more for cheaper than what you would spend at the stores.

I hope you enjoyed this blog, and if you have made bath bombs or sugar scrubs before, feel free to share any techniques or your recipes.  Please subscribe to follow my blog :) Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hair Extension Tips for Beginners

Hair Extension Tips for Beginners

Wonder World of Weave!

Hello Bitty luvs! I had meant to blog and post this about 2 weeks ago, but as usual, my life is pretty crazy.

I remember growing up as a kid, how I would watch my T.V. idols like Mariah Carey and Madonna..and see Cindy Crawford on the covers of fashion magazines.  I had always thought that the celebrities really looked that way all the time in real life. I loved Mariah Carey and her beautiful hair. Later as I got older, I found out all of the famous ladies wore hair extensions to get those lucious locks!

I heard about hair extensions, yet I was always scared to try them..but I started doing research on them and watched some videos online, read consumer reviews before I made the decision to purchase some for myself.  I had long hair when I was younger, but now that I am older, I can't manage to grow my hair too long.  I guess it's because of my desire to always change up my look every so often.

I must admit, I'm still fairly new to the weave game..I only own two pairs of hair extension sets, and both are from Bellami. I've been wearing them for about a year and a half..on and off..mostly during the fall and winter months when the weather gets cooler and I like to think it helps my head stay warm. :) I hate to wear my extensions in the summer time, I personally get too hot.

I personally wear Bellami clip-in hair extensions, in colors off black and mochachino brown, both at 160 grams, 20 inches long. They retail at $159.99 plus shipping and any taxes. You can find them here at http://www.bellamihair.com/collections/shop-all.  They work well for me as my hair is about shoulder length and I am fairly short..so 20" length is enough for me.

I know there are different types of hair extensions out there, but I am familiar with clip ins.  I prefer wearing clip-in hair extensions because they are easy to use, and I like the flexibility of being able to put them in and take them out as needed.  They're fairly easy to take care of, and if cared for properly, they can last you anywhere from 6 months to a year or even longer. I also like them because they add volume and length. Long hair just seems sexier to me because you have the ability to wear them big, curly, braided, straight...the styles are endless.

Now you can purchase your weave at many different places. You can go to your local Sally's, or purchase online.  There are a few online stores I prefer that sell Remy- real human hair. Stes like Bellami, SKR Hair, Hello Gorgeous to name a few. Price ranges anywhere from $100- $300 depending on the style and quality you choose.  They do require a pretty penny, but to think of it, they're reusable, and cost you as much as a hair style visit from a good hair salon.  Just make sure to budget yourself and do your research, and remember...you get what you pay for.  Cheaper does not always mean better.

Please please do not wear cheap extensions. You do not want to look crazy and ratchet! If you decide to wear them, take care of them and don't abuse them..otherwise you may end up on a picture meme posted on social media and nobody wants that.

Below are a few tips I've learned along my journey in the wonderful world of weave using remy clip-in hair extensions.

1. When you purchase your first hair, take it out of the package and wash it before wearing. This will help ensure you wear clean hair, and will help remove any packaging odors.  When you purchase real hair, sometimes the manufacturer dyes the hair, and puts some other chemicals on it to preserve the hair.  So by washing it, you will ensure you get all the chemicals out before you first wear it.

2. Invest in a detangle brush.  You can pretty much purchase a detangler brush at your local pharmacy store, Walmart, Target, Marshalls, Burlington, and many other places.  They are fairly inexpensive, about $5-$10 for a good one.  You want to make sure you invest in a good detangler brush to help detangle your extensions.  Because Remy hair is human hair, they tend to tangle and you do not want to use your regular hair brush to take out the tangles.  It will pull the hairs out and will cause your wefts to thin out over time.

3. Washing your hair extensions are pretty easy.  I try not to wash my hair but maybe once a month..even if that.  I don't use too much product on my extensions, and I find that you don't need to wash them like your regular hair unless they start to smell funky and if you sweat in them a lot.  If you do wash them, I like to take the steps below.
  • Use your detangler brush and brush out any knots.  Take the wefts of hair and put them together and secure with a hair tie at the top near the clips so you have a pony tail.
  • Use cold water and rinse out the hair. Gently squeeze the water out of the hair.
  • Use your shampoo and cover the hair and work through the hair in a downward motion. I prefer to use sulfate-free shampoo so it does not strip out any of the hair dye in the extension, and rinse thoroughly until the hair rinses free from soap bubbles. Gently squeeze the water out of the hair.
  • Next, take your conditioner and cover the hair, working it through the hair.  I like to use a deep conditioner that hydrates to put moisture back into the hair.  I leave it in the sink for about 5-10 minutes so the deep conditioner soaks into the hair.  Then I rinse it with cold water until I feel there is no product in the hair.  It is important to rinse out all of the  conditioner. If you leave conditioner on the hair, it can weigh it down and make it feel slimey. Who wants slimey hair? Ew.
  • Gently squeeze any excess water out.  Take a clean dry towel and squeeze the hair dry.  The last step is optional.  I like to take some leave in conditioner spray and spray it on the hair extensions and let air dry.  You can leave it on top of the towel or you can hang it dry.  It usually takes about a day to fully dry.  DO NOT use a hair dryer to dry your hair.  It will damage your hair and dry it out too much.  It's better to let your extensions air dry.  Using a hair dryer will dry out the hair and cause breakage and make it brittle. I also like to use a little bit of Argan oil on my extension hair tips.  It helps keep the moisture in.

4. When styling your extensions, make sure they are completely dry.  Use your detangle brush and brush out any tangles and knots in the hair.  There are a few ways to style your hair. You can clip them in, and style normally.  If you decide to curl your hair, it may be easier to curl them before you clip them in.  You can curl your natural hair first, then take your extensions and use a dresser drawer to hold it down and you can use your curling iron to curl them before clipping them in.  I find it easier if I do it that way and a lot faster, although it's personal preference.  The key is to make sure your extensions are completely dry when curling, and blending them with your natural hair.  Try playing with the placement of the hair extensions and see what looks best for you.

Remember, hair extensions are not your natural hair.  You don't have to wash them as much if you don't use as much product on them..like hair sprays..gels..etc. I find that curls stay longer with hair extensions..so no need for a lot of styling products.   If you do wash them, use the steps I mentioned above, and it will definitely extend your wear life with them. Make sure to use youre detangler brush.  It will keep your hair feeling soft and look beautiful.  I like to keep one at home and one in my purse for quick touch up brushes while I'm at work.  Hair extensions look great if worn properly.

I hope that you find this helpful.  If you have any helpful tips on taking care and wearing hair extensions, please feel free to comment and leave feedback. I would love to hear your tips!

Bitty Traveling Tips

Bitty's Top 5 Traveling Tips

Hello Bitty Beauties! I have been super busy the past few weeks with work, and I just came back from a long weekend down in New Orleans, Louisiana.  So please forgive my absence, as I am still recovering.  The days leading up to my trip, I was trying to prepare for packing, and noticed I learned a few things and want to share my little tips for those of you who may be traveling.

Whether you are driving, flying, or going on a boat, the tips below will surely help you stay beautiful during your trip and is very low-maintenance.

Bitty Tip 1

If you are flying, try not to over pack.  It can cost you extra charges, and airlines have weight limitations on carry on items as well as the 1 bag you can check in.  Instead, pack an outfit for how ever long your stay is. But try to mix and match.  You can wear jeans more than once, just change up the shirt. Or a black skirt can go with any color blouse if you're going somewhere fancy.  If you are staying for quite some time, I suggest to try to ship your clothes if possible.  It can save you money from the airline fees.  If you are driving, you have more flexibility.  You can slightly over pack, I know I do...I plan for the worst..like I pack extra underwear, bras, and socks. If you have room in the car, you have wiggle room depending on how many items are in the trunk or back seat.  There are videos out there on Youtube on giving suggestions on how to pack, some save space by rolling up their clothes, etc. You can check those out.  My personal experience, it never works out for me. I can get it in there, but I always can't get it back in because I put my dirty clothes in a separate bag, and/or I end up buying souvenirs and trinkets.

Bitty Tip 2

When packing beauty supplies (makeup, toiletries, etc), try to invest in travel items from your local drugstore, Walmart, or Target.  I purchase a few of the shampoos and conditioners, toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, etc.  They're easy to travel with, and you can toss them when you are done.  It will make room in your suitcase. As far as packing makeup, depending on the situation you are traveling for, I usually try to keep things simple.  I pack a foundation, face powder, primer (you can use for your face and eyelids), a neutral lipstick, a bold lipstick, and a eye palette that is versatile.  I personally choose a neutral eyeshadow palette like Lorac Pro, or Naked3. Better yet, invest in some eyeshadow sticks.  Believe it or not, the shadows are very versatile.  You can use it for a day out in the town, and easily transition to the slightly darker shadows to create a smokey eye effect for an evening out in town. I like Mally's eyeshadow sticks.  I use them for a shadow, and you can use it to line under your waterline to add a more dramatic effect.   If you are going to a friend's wedding, they may have a makeup artist already scheduled to give makeovers for the wedding.  You can also share with a friend..but I don't recommend sharing anything that would touch a moist part of the body..like lipstick or eyeliner..you may catch pink eye or something worse.

Bitty Tip 3

Invest in some good travel makeup brushes and take them with you.  I had to learn this the hard way.  I went to New Orleans, Louisiana and had to pack full sized makeup brushes.  It was very annoying as they weren't in a case, and got product on my make up case.  You can purchase travel makeup brushes anywhere..Ulta, Sephora, Target, Walmart, or any local drugstore.  They don't have to be high-end makeup brushes..they are for traveling.  You may also want to pick up some makeup brush remover, or you can use soap or shampoo.  Just make sure you clean them off and let them dry to avoid bacteria.

Bitty Tip 4

No matter the weather and location of your travel destination, make sure you pack a facial moisturizer with sunscreen.  This is vital to your skin.  You want to make sure you protect it from the Sun's UV rays..which are present at all times no matter how hot or cold it is outside.  Make sure you hydrate and drink water.

Take some gel coolers you can fit into your purse.  If you are traveling on a long flight, for example..if you are traveling internationally, you should try to wear minimal make up..none preferred.  If you must wear makeup, try to wash your face once you get on the plane.  Especially if you are traveling internationally..where you tend to sleep.

When you are at a higher altitude, your skin will start to lose moisture.  Make sure to take a few mins and wash your face in the bathroom.  Put on some moisturizer, and your eye gel de-puffers.  I love Glam Glow's Thirsty Mud Mask. Drink lots of water on the flight.  This will help you look hydrated and refreshed once you land.  If you are on a long flight, try to avoid foods high in salt.

Bitty Tip 5

With all the craziness and health scares in these modern times, I will always suggest to bring hand sanitizers with you if possible. You can use hand sanitizer wipes.  Not saying be a "clean freak" but they are very helpful.  You can use the wipes to wipe down your seating area, and any hard surfaces you may come across.  Make sure to wash your hands frequently and bring some small travel lotion if possible to moisturize your hands.  You don't want your hands so dry that the skin gets small microscopic tears from all the harsh chemicals some wipes may contain.  Always pack some disposable face masks.  You can purchase some from your local drugstore.  They are only a few bucks for a whole box.  You can pack a few, and I suggest putting it on once you get on the plane.  There is no telling who is sick with a cold, flu, or worse.

Have fun on your trip and be safe.  Just be aware of your surroundings and try to plan ahead and for the worst.  Pack enough for your stay.  Remember, you can usually find a nearby store to purchase an item if you forgot something or need extra items.

On a different subject, I mentioned earlier that I spent a long weekend in New Orleans, LA.  I was celebrating my birthday, yes..I'm a Libra.  I had so much fun.  I wanted to give a shout out to the Marriot on Convention Center, they have excellent service and great rates. It was about a 7 hour drive from Atlanta, GA where I reside and it went by pretty fast. I must recommend to anyone who may go out there, to take the French Quarter Tour with the Cemetery Tour, and the evening Ghost Tour of the French Quarter.  Don't worry, you are on the streets, and don't really go into the buildings.  My BFF and I took so many pictures.  Great food, and great music..and the drinks were fantastic.  If you are looking for a good jazz bar, check out the B.M.C. jazz bar. Anyway, I had a great time, and thanks to all who wished me a happy birthday.  Click the link to view pictures of my weekend.  http://lnkd.in/dxBTiDd

I'm working on getting a new computer, but once I do that..I'll be working on putting some videos up. My other computer crashed :(   Feel free to comment or leave any travel tips that work for you! Until next time..

Bitty Health Tip: Help Prevent the Spread of Illness

Help Prevent the Spread of Illness

Hello Bitty Luvs! Due to the most recent events of Ebola and the Enterovirus D68, I thought I would put out some information to help others out.  This holds a special place in my heart because I come from a medical background, and I work at the Centers for Disease Control as my full-time job when I am not blogging.  I'm not going to repeat information that you can learn on your own, I'm sure you all have heard about it on the news, and have access to a computer or smartphone since you are reading this blog.  Ahhh, the power of the Internet and technology.

So a few tips in preventing the spread of illness that you may not be aware of.  The days have passed since I actually "liked" getting sick..the days when I was a child, and wanted to have an excuse to stay home and sleep all day.  But let's face it, once you become old enough, you don't want to get sick because it is annoying, and frankly, does not feel good and in some cases, can be very dangerous if you have medical conditions.

These tips below may help you if you are traveling and even if you were not, it will help you from getting sick (I hope).

What is a "Respiratory Illness"?

Respiratory illness affects a person's ability to breath, affecting organs as your lungs, and sinuses.  Illnesses like the common cold, or the flu are spread from one person to another through droplets of bodily fluids from the mucus membranes become airborne.  For example, when you sneeze or cough, the tiny droplets become airborne and get into the mouth or nose of people who are within close proximity.  Bacterial germs can live on the surfaces nearby, for example, a desk, doorknobs, etc. They usually can live on the hard surfaces for about 2 hours or longer.  If a non-infected person touches the surface and touches his or her mouth, nose, eyes, the person can be infected.  Basically, any moist membrane on your body.

You can stop a Respiratory Illness by taking simple steps.  DO NOT cough or sneeze into your hands.  We learn this in elementary school.  If you have to cough or sneeze, cover your mouth using your arm, or a tissue.  If using a tissue, throw it away immediately into a trash receptacle.

WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN, use hand sanitizer, wash it before you eat, after you go to the bathroom, after you sneeze or cough.  DO NOT SHARE FOODS or DRINKS.

If you are infected with a respiratory illness, make sure to go to the doctor.  You do not want to let it get to the point where you neglect it so much and cause yourself to not get enough oxygen, especially if you have a history of asthma.  There are treatments the physician can give you, steroids to help your lungs get stronger.  A nebulizer machine with treatments, a inhaler, etc.

What is a "Foodborne Illnesses"

Foodborne illnesses stem from eating contaminated food.  It may be undercooked, or is contaminated with a virus or some kind of bacteria, or worst...contain a parasite.  Have you ever watched the show "Monster Inside Me" on the Animal Planet? If you haven't, I suggest that you watch it if you want to learn about parasites and the destruction they can cause within one's body.

Practice good food safety by ensuring that you consume foods that are fully cooked, and served at the proper temperature.  I am very cautious, and I always order any meats well done, and stay away from raw meats/fish.  Don't get me wrong, I LOVE sushi.  But I do not consume any raw fish.  It's my personal preference, but I have been a witness to what happens to a person's body who had obtained a parasite.  It's not a pretty picture.  Trust me, you DO NOT want a parasite coming out of any openings on your body.

Wash all fruits and vegetables.  You never know what kind of bacteria is on an exterior of a fruit or vegetable.  Washing fruits and vegetables can remove any fertilizer, or any chemicals that may be on the surface.  Plus, you don't know who had touched the fruit or vegetable before you.  No matter if you are at a farmer's market, local grocery store, or picking it from a farm.  Wash it!

Drink dairy products or juices that have been pasteurized, drink beverages that have been bottled with a seal.  If the seal is broken, don't drink it.

If you do contract a foodborne illness and you soil yourself, whether it is from vomiting, or having a bathroom "accident", make sure you wash yourself off, and wash your clothing, etc.  Clean up after yourself, throw away any vomit, disinfect the surface, and wash your hands with soap and water.

Avoid Touching Your Face

Have you ever watched the movie Contagion? In a part of the movie, it talks about how people do not realize how often they touch their face in a day.  Bottom line, touching your face is gross.  Bacteria and viruses are easily spread by being transferred from your finger tips onto your skin.  It can cause acne and develop contact dermatitis and herpes simplex.  For example, if you have herpes on your lips (cold sore), or herpes from your genitals and touch or rub your eye, the bacteria can transfer and cause you to get herpes in your eye.  Remember, bacteria thrives in moist places.    If you already are acne prone, touching your face all the time can trigger more acne to develop.

Sit back and think of all the items you touch in a single day.  You touch door handles, public restrooms, escalators, elevator buttons, workplace fridge, vending machines, money, and more.  Now think of who else may have touched those same surfaces before you..and after you.  Someone could have had their finger in their nose, touched that same area, and you touched it..now you're touching your face.  GROSS.  Let's face it, not everyone in the world has the same hygiene practices.  A bottle of hand sanitizer is about $0.99 cents at Walmart.  You can also purchase a travel Lysol spray.  Or purchase a medical face mask at your local store.   If you are ill, stay away from school or the workplace.  Take vitamins, and any prescribed medicines.

I'm not saying be a germaphobe, but just be aware.  Wash your hands often with soap and water.  Make better judgements.  We all need to have heightened awareness, especially during these times.  Life is getting crazy with all the diseases, viruses, etc.  Take precaution and be safe.  I hope this helps some people out and to shed some light and get your minds thinking.  I would love to hear any practices that you may do to help spread illness in your daily activities.  Leave any comments below or if you have questions.

Teeth Whitening At Home: Whitening Lightening Dial A Smile Review

Whitening Lightening-Dial A Smile Review

Disclaimer: This blog is not sponsored by Whitening Lightening. This was my review based on my personal experience with the product.

Hello Bittys!  I am back this week to discuss my thoughts about a home teeth whitening kit that I had discovered, Whitening Lightening's Dial A Smile.  I had heard about this kit so much, and because of my dental background, I was very intrigued and wanted to try this out for myself to see if it really worked.

I must admit, I am a former smoker. I haven't smoked for about 7 years.  I am also a coffee drinker, like many, I am addicted to Starbucks coffee as well as Dunkin' Donuts iced coffees.  Even with all that, I don't have yellow teeth, and my teeth are pretty white despite the circumstances. I suspect annual visits to the dentist and regular dental cleanings, along with good dental hygiene help me out a lot.

With that said, I would always hear about the Dial-A-Smile kit from Whitening Lightening.  So I took took to YouTube to watch user reviews.  I also read up on it online, and visited their  Whitening Lightening website to view the prices.  The kit I bought was the Dial-A-Smile kit and teeth whitening pen combo.  It retails for $115 (plus tax and shipping), but I found a discount code using "smlx0combo" that brought it down to $59 (plus tax and shipping, making it $65 overall).  It ships from California, but yet I received the package fairly quickly.

The set up and application process was fairly straight forward and to the point.  It came with pictures of step-by-step instructions and all the materials needed.  It was fairly easy to put on, and once you put the mouth piece in your mouth and turn on the blue curing light, you wait for 20 mins.  I found that it was fairly comfortable having the mouth piece in.  My initial concerns were that I was going  to drool, or it would drop out of my mouth because my mouth would get tired.  However, I didn't have any issues with the process.  My teeth and my gums were not sensitive during the process, or afterwards.  I was a shade 6 at first, and afterwards, I compared my teeth to the shade chart and saw I was a shade 3.  So it took me 3 shades whiter.

To say the least, I was very pleased with my results.  I was a skeptic like most, and I knew I would have been upset if it did not work.  Three shades lighter after my first application.  The kit comes with 3 teeth wipes, as well as 3 Vitamin E swabs, so I'm assuming it's supposed to last at least 3 applications.  Although I know I can get more than 3.  It did not take much to coat my teeth with the whitening gel.  So I'm a little disappointed because it only came with 3 teeth wipes, and 3 swabs.  I'm wondering if I can substitute the Vitamin E swab with something else, or if I would truly need to purchase more on their site.  Which they do not sell the swabs separately, you would have to purchase a refill kit at $49-$78 so that is very disappointing.

So is it really worth buying?

Bottom line, I honestly think that yes, it is worth buying.  Despite the price and the lack of refill items, it is worth it.  I do suggest that you find a discount code to help make it friendly in the pockets.  You would be spending more on teeth whitening visits at the dentist, and kits you purchase at the local stores like Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, Target, etc.  Even though I thought it was a little pricey, it gave me awesome results and it really works.  It literally only took 20 mins with one application.  Imagine the results after 2 more.  The boosting pen is also nice because you can apply it every night for 14 days.  It doesn't take much to apply on your teeth, unless you have huge chiclet teeth or something. I tried the teeth whitening strips from drugstores, and found that this was way easier to apply at home.  It was only once, and for 20 mins.  You can carry on at home and 20 mins will fly by.  Unlike other teeth whitening items, that you may have to apply twice a day for 14 days.  I found that this was quick and easy, and gave better results.  For a true teeth whitening system at home, that is way cheaper than having multiple visits to the dentist for whitening treatments.  It's also cheaper thinking of the overall cost.

Bitty Dental Hygiene Tips

  1.  After the 3 applications, I would just budget to purchase a refill kit. Then do the whitening once every 3-4 weeks.
  2. Follow up with using a teeth whitening tooth paste, along with some teeth whitening mouthwash if you really want to have white teeth.
  3. Remember this though, a super white smile does not look "natural".  So don't go crazy with it, and a white smile does not necessarily mean that you have great teeth.
  4. You should still follow up with your dentist, get regular checkups and dental cleanings.  Brush twice a day, and floss every night.

You can visit the http://www.whiteninglightning.com/ site to view all their products. They also have great beauty products that you can purchase.

Feel free to leave comments on your dental whitening experiences, or if you have tried this product.  I would love to hear your thoughts  and reviews! And don't forget to subscribe  to my blog for more Bitty Beauty Tips.

If you're a make-up product junkie like me, you may want to listen up if you are not familiar with beauty box subscriptions.  Monthly beauty boxes are becoming more popular, they're mentioned all in the beauty magazines, all over YouTube and other social medias like Twitter, Instagram, and FaceBook.  There are many types that have popped up within the past year, subscriptions to healthy foods, make-up, and many more.  Companies like Birchbox, Ipsy, GlossyBox, BeautyBox5, Wantable and BoxyCharm just to name a few.  I will discuss a few pro's and con's in case you have been debating if they're really worth the money.

Beauty Box Benefits

  1. Beauty box benefits the subscriber because they offer you a chance to try new and upcoming brands.  Many companies are fighting to get the customer in the door, and hope the customer becomes a repeat consumer of their products.
  2. There are many beauty box subscriptions, all offering a range of low-end items that you can find at your local Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS.  The subscriber can also receive high-end items that can only be ordered online, or purchased at a Sephora, Macy's, Ulta, Nordstrom, etc.
  3. Many can offer you different types of products, for instance, you can receive make-up, make-up brushes/applicators, nail polishes, clothing, hair products...the list goes on.
  4. Different subscriptions are affordable, you can subscribe to a anything from $10- $40 a month..depending on what type you get.  I found the subscriptions that offer clothing and shoes can get around the $30- $40 range.
  5. Because it's a "subscription" item, you get the package delivered to your doorstep. It is very convenient because you don't have to look through items in a store, battling traffic, crazy weather, or finding items that have been tampered with.  You can be assured that your items will come to you packaged and new, if not, just call the customer service representative.

Beauty Box Cons

  1. Beauty box subscriptions boast that they send you "custom" items, usually derived from results of a personal quiz that you have to answer during the registration process.  No matter which you subscribe to, you will often find that some consumers are not happy with the items they receive because they are not in need of the product, or it's the wrong shade, etc.  So be aware you may not necessarily receive all the items that you would actually use.
  2. Beauty box subscriptions require a credit card when you register.  This may pose an issue with consumers who are younger than 18 yrs old and may not have a credit card.  I've seen complaints that people had gotten charged but never received their items.  Luckily, most subscription companies have a customer service number or e-mail that you can contact to get the issue straightened out.
  3. Some complaints I've seen is that some subscribers tend to get tired of one subscription.  For example, many subscribed to Ipsy, but you can look all over YouTube and see that some subscribers are getting disappointed every month.  They either had to keep retaking the quiz to get their "custom" items to suit their type of skin, skin tone, etc.
  4. You become a product junkie...beauty hoarder..whatever you may call it.  You may like to try different types of products, but you many not necessarily use all the products you receive.  You start piling it in the bathroom..on your dresser..in a box..in your purse..wherever you have the room to store your items.  Luckily, there are sites such as www.edivv.com where you can swap unwanted makeup products, and various types of fashion items.  It's a great way to recycle your unwanted, gently used items.  Otherwise, you either hoard your beauty items, or you start giving it away to your friends and family..which may not be so bad..but do you really want to lose money on the items you purchased?

I hope this helped shine a light for those of you reading who were debating whether you wanted to subscribe or not.  Perhaps you haven't heard of any of the companies I've mentioned.  No matter what you decide...one thing for sure is that the popularity of  beauty box subscriptions are growing. They have subscriptions for all age groups.  The great thing is, you can always cancel your subscription. Or subscribe to different ones at the same time.  It's up to you.  We as a society have moved away from magazine and newspaper subscriptions..the "cool new thing" right now are beauty boxes and it's helping many people save money while companies are enjoying the generated revenue.  Basic business rule..supply and demand.

Bitty Fit Tips

Bitty Fit Tips- 5 Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle

Hello Bitty Beauties! I am changing it up this week to give some helpful tips on jump starting a healthier life style.  If you're like me, you may have had issues with your weight over the years..or just have some type of health issue.  Speaking for myself, I've always had issues, I'm 4"11" and trying to stay within my "recommended" weight is a little hard.  I am a mother myself, have two kids.  I work full time, spending about 2-3 hours sitting in traffic.  By the time I get home from work, I am exhausted.  I always found it a challenge.  Even when I was in the military, I was in great shape..but after the stresses of life and life events..it became harder and harder..progressed as I got older and older (but hey..i'm not that old lol).  Like most people, my weight has went up and down over the years.

So with that said, I had this great idea to post some great tips to help anyone.

1. My first tip is to keep track of your activities.

Before you start anything, make sure you keep some type of tracker. Whether it is by a journal, a fitness app on your smart phone, or an activity tracker like FitBit or jawbone.  I myself have a FitBit flex.  I download the app, and can sync my daily activities using the app to see where my progress is.   You want to keep track of your progress.

2. Meal Planning- meal preparation is key

Plan out your daily meals.  This is probably one of the hardest barriers I always face.  There is really no easy way to get around it..especially if you are the only one in the household who is so called "dieting".  I personally try to incorporate the healthier lifestyle with my family.  It's easier if everyone in the family is on the same page.  If not, you just have to dedicate your self and really try to plan your meals.  I know it's hard, especially if you're a full time worker, or if you are always taking care of little ones.

My tip is to purchase lean meats.  Chicken breasts, lean beef, lean lamb, fresh fish for your main protein.  Go to the grocery store, or local farmer's market and purchase a variety of fruits, and veggies that you like.  You can season your meats, make your own marinade.  I stick to baking, broiling, or boiling.  If I have to fry/sautee' anything, I always use olive oil.  As far as seasonings and marinades, I try to purchase flavorful seasonings or even fresh seasonings.  Fresh rosemary goes well with chicken or lamb.  You can cook the meat ahead of time, making several baked chicken and put them in containers.  Cut up your fruits, make a fruit salad, and make sure to include your vegetables.  Raw or cooked.  Take the time out to cook on the weekends.  And if you work Monday through Friday, purchase 5 tupperware containers, and make your lunch for the work week.  It will definitely save you some money.  You can research so many healthy recipes online.  Here is a great site I came across that provide clean eating recipes: http://www.heandsheeatclean.com.

If you aren't the cooking type, you can still plan your meals.  If you like to eat outside of the home, you can take a little time and research some of the fast foods, or restaurant foods near your area.  Find a Subway, make health conscious decisions.  Whenever I go out to eat with my family, I always look at the plate and tell myself that I will take half of the food home in a doggy bag.  Make substitutions.  Instead of fries, order a salad on the side.  Drink water instead of soda or sweet tea.  Eat turkey bacon instead of real bacon.  If you're working, plan your work week if you can.  So many restaurants have their menus online.  You can usually check out places and their menu ahead of time, some even provide the caloric information.

3. Start Slow- let your body adjust

You start off slow, but as you get over the first two weeks, it gets a lot easier.  For example, if you prefer a DVD workout like P90X..you may not be able to make it through the entire workout at first.  Instead, focus on your form, learn how to do the exercises correctly so you don't injure yourself.  If it's a 30 minute workout, try to start slow and see if you can do at least 15 mins, then slowly progress to 30 mins..and so on.  If you like running/jogging and you're starting slow, you can start by doing small increments of activity.  Stretch first, then walk at your pace for about 30 mins.  The next time you go out, start walking for about 5-10 mins to get warmed up. Then jog for about 3-5 mins..remember, small increments.  Work your way up and before you know it, your stamina will be soaring!

4. Take time to rest- but not too much!

Before you take any fitness routine, you should consult your doctor if you have any medical issues.  That way, you are cleared to do whatever exercise activity you decide to partake in.  I understand, the first few days..or weeks can be a shock to your body.  Make sure to work in some rest days in your fitness routine.  Listen to your body but remember, no pain no gain!  Some of those muscles are sore because you have not worked them out in a long long time.  Trust me, I've been in situations where I was doing squats and could not walk or sit down the next few days without everything hurting.  The pain was temporary and I was ok by the 3rd day.  It's just your body's way to telling you that you are working out muscles.  If you're tired and you're in the middle of working out, take the time and just slowly walk around.  Hydrate, towel off.  Sit down if needed.  Once you catch your breath, resume your workout and finish.  Just keep telling yourself..it will get easier the more you progress.  Don't give up!

5.  Do NOT weigh yourself every day- we are all different

Everyone's body is different and everyone's body responds to activity different.  Do NOT weight yourself everyday.  Weigh your self the first day, and then once a week after.  Make sure to track your progress.  I would even say use tape to measure your waistline, thighs, biceps, etc.  Just because you don't lose weight the first week does not mean you didn't lose fat.  You could have gained muscle, and truth is..you will gain muscle as you continue to work out.  My husband can lose weight so fast, the first two weeks, he would be toned and ripped.  Myself on the other hand..it takes me months sometimes.  Remember, you are trying to change your lifestyle and keep up the lifestyle.  Don't focus on that scale so much.  Trust me, as long as you continue your healthy lifestyle activities, the weight on the scale won't matter as much because you will be able to tell yourself.  You will notice when you put on those jeans that you couldn't fit anymore..or take pictures of yourself with a group of people (no not selfies).  When you're with a group of people and you really see yourself.  You'll be able to tell the difference when you are running or jogging..and you are doing it for 30 mins..1 mile..2 miles..3 miles...you will be able to see the change.  It's not going to happen over night. If you stick to your routine, make health conscious decisions, and LOVE YOURSELF....you will see the pounds shed off. Your body will be thanking you.  You'll have more time with your family and friends and really have the ability to enjoy life.

YouTube channel??

YouTube??

Hello Bitty Beauties! Ok..so I've been thinking this for awhile now.. I am debating if I should start a YouTube channel. I must admit, I do a lot of product reviews (hence the reason I am a product junkie) and I was thinking of starting a YouTube channel.  Not sure as to how to start it, but I think I have the basic concept down.  I will need a video camera..a memory card..both of which I know my husband has somewhere in the house.  And a YouTube account..which I already have.  Does anyone out there know any more information? If so, please feel free to comment or e-mail me at mwreaves83@gmail.com  I think with my health background, and my love for make-up.. I would hope it would be beneficial to share my Beauty Tips with the Internet world...plus I need a hobby to keep me occupied and sane.

Anywho..let me know what you think.  It may be a little bit until I start it..I'm kinda scared of Internet trolls..and not sure as to how to do the entire process, like editing videos, etc so I will still research it a bit before I jump in and actually record.

Just an idea....to Tube or not to Tube..that is the question!

P.S.  I'll be posting a review on some new items I've been trying.  Mally, NARS, and some BB/CC creams.  Stay tuned....

eDivv website..makeup exchange/trading..Fabulous Concept!

New trading/exchange website: eDivv

Hello my loves! I have been sooo busy the past few weeks..err..month..and I know I really need to get a better handle on my time management skills and blogging.  None the less, here I am ready to tell you about this fantastic new website I came across.  It is called eDivv. It is a fantastic website where you can go, register, and trade beauty products as well as accessories..and many more.  You trade products with others, you can browse for various types of products..name brand, high-end products like Urban Decay, or low end, and drug store products.  You can view the item details..the condition of the product, "New", "Like New", "Used"..etc.   Once you discover an item you want to "divvy", you can choose to trade specific items, or send a "I'm interested" where the other person can choose products from you.

It is definitely a great website.  I've uploaded products of my own that I just have too much of, or tried and not necessarily liked.  For example, I bought a foundation, and it's not quite my color..but it's still "like new".  I upload it on my eDivv store..and put it out there for others that I can trade with. You can send a counter-offer to the other divvyer if you don't initially like what you see. And if both of you accept the offer, each of you will mail the other the products.  I try to add a tracking number for them for good business practices.  That way, they can track their package.  It is definitely a great site, very easy to use, and I've already traded or "divvied" 4 times.  You can also put your review for the user, so others can see the credability of the other divvyer. You should definitely check it out.

This works great if you subscribe to beauty subscriptions like Birchbox, Ipsy, Wantable, JusFab, etc.  You can divvy almost anything..I've seen phone cases, shoes, clothing, purses..etc.  You can set up your eDivv account here: http://www.edivv.com .  You can also view my shop MsIttyBitty83's shop.  I have a few items up for trade.

I will do better and post up some more Bitty Beauty Tips. I have some reviews to post up so stay tuned.  Thanks so much for your patience! :)

First Impressions- BareSkin- Bare Minerals

BareSkin: Pure brightening serum foundation

I had been seeing a lot of promotion around bareMinerals' new BareSkin: Pure brightening serum foundation.  If you ever shop at Ulta or Sephora, you would have most likely seen their promotional ads, so you know I had to go out and get this as soon as they had released it.  I am a big fan of bareMinerals makeup, as I prefer to use makeup that isn't so "cakey" and have more of a natural-matte finish.  I ordered mine online at Ulta, and they have 20 shades that will match your color.  I normally would go into the store and try it out myself, but color match online was pretty easy.  I also went ahead and bought the applicator brush/buffer.

Let's go over specifics and claims:

BareSkin claims to have a ultra-thin, silky texture, will reveal a bright- even toned skin, non-chemical broad spectrum SPF 20 with no Silicones, Oils, Parabens, Fragrance, Hypo-allergenic, non-comedogenic.  The formula also has a Coconut-derived base with Jojoba coated mineral pigments and Lilac plant stem cells and Vitamin C.

You can purchase the foundation for $29 at Ulta, and the applicator brush for about $28-$29 separately.

First Impressions:

I bought my foundation in shade Bare Tan 13.  I am a medium skin toned with yellow undertones.  You should shake the foundation to ensure it is properly mixed as it is highly concentrated.  I also used a primer before I applied the foundation.  You do not have to use one, but I am a creature of habit, so I used one.  After properly shaking the foundation, I applied 3 drops onto the applicator.  It doesn't smell too strong, it does not have a botanical smell to it.  I buffed it onto my face in small, circular motions.  I found that it gave great coverage.  They recommend to use 1-2 drops of the foundation if you want a light coverage, and 3-4 drops if you want a medium/full coverage.  It glided on smoothly, had great coverage, and was easy to apply.  I used another 3 drops for the other side of my face and dragged it down to my neck.  It gives an even coverage and truly matches your skin and blends well.  I found that it did not crease around my eye area so that was a plus.

Bottom line, I was very impressed.  I liked how it did not feel heavy on my face, yet gave me the full coverage I was looking for.  The product was smooth and silky.  It has a great wearability, I had mine for about 9 hours for the work day, and I did touch up with a powder toward the end of the day (I'm just a little oily around my t-zone).  I liked how it was very easy to apply, and it blended well with other makeup like my blush and eye-shadow.  I would say that it is one of the best foundations I have tried so far, and I will most likely re-buy it once I am done.  For $29 a bottle, it truly is a great deal, most high-end foundations are $35+.  It looks like my makeup is flawless and almost air-brushed looking.  I have yet to see if the brightening part works as I have only been using it for about 4 days, but I think it would even out my skin tone and lighten up any age spots/Sun damage in the long run.

I hope this helps you in making your decision about trying and purchasing this product.  You will not be disappointed.

Urban Decay's Naked 3 Palette Vs. Lorac Pro

Background

It's been awhile and I'm back from my hiatus.  I've been so busy with work, and extra activities and projects, that I just haven't had the time to really sit down and write down some thoughts, although I have been purchasing and buying new beauty products so I thought I'd start with a review of the Naked 3 Palette and Lorac Pro Palette. I'm getting back into the saddle and will soon be posting up more beauty blogs and will be posting more jewelry creations that I've been working on.  With that said, let's begin! Urban Decay's Naked 3 Palette and the Lorac Pro palette. Both are eye shadow palettes.  Naked 3 is roughly about $52 and the Lorac Pro is about $42 on Ulta.com and Sephora.com.

I've been using both, I've had the Naked 3 palette for about a month or so and the Lorac Pro for about a week and a half. Below is a breakdown of my thoughts about each product.  Keep in mind, this is my experience using the products.  What works for me may not work for you..but at least you will get a better idea once you make your decision if you purchase one or the other.

Urban Decay's Naked 3

I was so excited once I first heard about this palette.  At first it was sold out online, but luckily my local Ulta store had them in stock when they had first released.  I love the packaging.  The tin packaging is very secure, and appealing..chic, and modern.  The rectangle mirror is fantastic in helping you while you work with the shadows.  The palette features 12 new shades ranging from pale, shimmery rose gold, to a shimmery black. I have a medium-skin tone with pink undertones, and the shades work fairly well for me.  You can pretty much create various looks, ranging from a natural chic look or take it for a more dramatic effect and pull a smokey eyed look.  The biggest con I had was the amount of flakes and fallout from the shadows.  It's disappointing and can get really annoying after awhile. The palette has good pigmentation, although some shades take a couple of applications to get the right shade depth as some colors are very sheer, or come off once I start blending.  The brush that comes with the palette is one of the best, and I find myself using it quite often with other shadows, so that is a plus.

Lorac Pro

I had been hearing so many great reviews about the Lorac Pro, and I must say, it took me awhile to even get the nerve to purchase it.  I guess it was more so because I had just bought the Naked 3 palette and didn't want to spend more money on another palette.  I finally made the decision to purchase it, and I am so glad I did.  The reviews I had heard were all true.  I LOVE the Lorac Pro.  I've been using it every day for the past week.  The colors are so pigmented, and have a creamy texture even though it is not a "cream" shadow.  It comes with 8 shimmery shadows, and 8 matte eye shadows.  The packaging isn't so great, quite plain.  There is a rectangle mirror that you can use while on the go.  The packaging does not secure so it makes one a little hesitant to take it on the go, for example in your purse...so you can't really take it with you for touch-ups throughout the day.  I absolutely love the matte shades.  They are great for adding depth on your eye crease, and serve as a great transition color once you start blending.  The colors are easily blendable, giving you a nice smokey effect if you are using the darker shades.  The shimmery shadows add just enough pigmentation to really give a nice effect on the eye lid.  It does not come with a brush applicator, unlike the Naked 3 palette..but if you ask me, the quality of shadows in the Lorac Pro make up for the lack of brush applicator.  I was very pleased.   Like the Naked 3, the Lorac Pro palette has so many colors, that the possibilities of color combinations you can create are endless.

So which one should I purchase?

Overall, I like both palettes..but if I had to choose one, I would pick the Lorac Pro before I would buy the Naked 3.  First reason being, the Lorac Pro is cheaper.  If you buy from Ulta.com, you can usually get a free Lorac sample.  I received a sample of Lorac Pro's eye shadow primer.  Second reason being that the shadows do not flake and is not messy.  I am more pleased with the color combinations I can create with the Lorac Pro.  I find that it blends easier than the Naked 3 shadows.  Third reason, you get more shadows with the Lorac Pro.  The Naked 3 palette, you only get 12 colors versus the 16 that you get with the Lorac Pro.  I find that I have all the shadows I need in the Lorac Pro.  But then again, I'm not the one to wear real bright colored shadows, so I find the Lorac Pro suits me better.  My style is "natural chic" or "classic" style.  I really like how I can use the Lorac Pro for any occasion.  I've been using it for my "work" make-up, and I've been using it on a daily basis.  You can create a simple look for everyday so easily.

I have plenty of shadows and palettes on hand.  I have palettes ranging from Em cosmetics, various palettes from Urban Decay, Victoria Secret, Nyx, BeautiControl, and various drug store palettes and I must say..the Lorac Pro is my "go-to" palette to use.  The Lorac Pro is a good investment, and in my opinion, every girl should have one.  It is definitely worth your money and you will not be disappointed.
